What an awesome turn out we had Saturday! It completely exceeded our expectations. This was the first year the Arts Fest was at the Humboldt Farmer's Market! In addition to the Farmer's Market there was a Kids Makers Market (organized by Paxton Petersen w/ Humboldt Recreation), a huge art tent with free crafts for kids, live music, and burgers!
There were a variety of different tables at the Kids Makers Market selling anything from lemonade to science kits! All of them were set up around the big art tent.
Under the art tent we had multiple organizations hosting crafts for kids. Nokomis Woodworking Club had scrap wood for kids to build and glue together. The Humboldt Area Arts Council provided face painting and bubbles. Floral Creations had a station to create fun floral bookmarks. Bank Iowa brought ceramic piggy banks for kids to paint. Paul Gibson was there to make his awesome balloon animals. Our musical guests, Cracked Reeds, were set up under the tent. The Humboldt Library set up on the sidewalk by Dom's Cafe and Catering. They were crafting the cutest little whales.
Joe Hadar came to the market and asked if we wanted him to jam. Of course we said "yes!" In a matter of minutes Joe and Kent were setting up behind the statue and ready to jam. Cracked Reeds would play a few songs then Joe and Kent would play some. All of the music added so much life to our event! It almost made me forget how hot it was standing in the sun. Live music is something we definitely need more of at future Farmer's Markets.
Dom's Cafe and Catering came down with hamburgers and chips for lunch. He showed up a little after 10am after grilling the burgers a few blocks away at his storefront. Most Farmer's Market days I barely eat until after we've packed up so having access to a delicious burger during the Farmer's Market was much appreciated!
The Humboldt Farmer's Market had a bunch of vendors; the most we've had yet. We had the street blocked off this week. It gave us the ability to keep around the statue open for easy flow to the plaza where the art tent was located. The vendors below are listed in order from East to West on the sidewalk then looping back up the street West to East.
The whole day is kind of a blur for me. There was so much going on I couldn't experience everything or even check in with all the vendors towards the end. We hope everyone had a great time and enjoyed the beautiful weather we had! It's such a joy to see our little market grow!
It was a huge event with a lot of planning. Thank you to everyone who made Saturday possible...especially Sammi. She's the rock of the Humboldt Farmer's Market committee and she does it while having two young children, a full time job, and baking with me weekly in order to be a vendor at the Farmer's Market. Without Sammi I don't know what we'd do!
Let's hope this Saturday is just as wonderful! We're having a BONUS Farmer's Market at the Humboldt County Fair. All of our vendors will be set up East of the Hewitt building at the Humboldt County Fairgrounds. The hours for that will be our normal 8am-12pm. We hope to see you there!
If you'd like to become a vendor click here or email us at HumboldtFarmersMarket@gmail.com!
Until then stay safe, be kind and we'll talk soon!
