Our farmer's market season kicked off this last Saturday, May 11th! After rain most of the week we were greeted with the most beautiful sunny day! It started at 50° and I think it got up to 70° by noon. We were slightly worried earlier in the week with the grass in the plaza having standing water, but it dried up just enough to walk on without getting muddy. The weather was perfect and the community really showed up for our market! We're totally blown away by the crowds of people. The amount of support from our community makes it worth all the hard work.
It was Mother's Day weekend so of course we did a kid's craft for mom. Kid's got to color a card and pick out a potted flower for mom. This year I started all of the flower seedlings and designed the cards for kids. This craft was free to do! Any adult could have a potted flower for a free will donation.
Shelly Jacobi with Tastefully Simple wanted to sponsor our first week. Her sponsorship paid for our advertising this week. Shelly's the best and even did Free Ride Friday at 97.7 The Bolt the Friday before the market! You can see that live stream on our Facebook page. We appreciate Shelly for not only sponsoring, but being one of the most supportive people at any event we see her at! She's always giving compliments and making everyone around her feel welcomed.
We had two information booths set up this week! TC Loving with the Humboldt Soil and Water Conservation District to talk everything water conservation, Three Rivers Trail, and Humboldt Hardpack 30! Jen Wyckoff, her husband John, and Sheriff Dean Kruger manned the Humboldt County Sheriff's Office to chat with the community and handout some fun things for the kids at the market!
Joe Hadar and Kent Mick played live music for us from 10:30am-11:30am. They played at Arts Fest last year (along with the saxophone group, Cracked Reeds). I'm someone who loves having music playing all the time, so I think having the live music at the market really livens up the market.
This is our second season organizing the Humboldt Farmer's Market. Last year we started with 5 vendors...this year we had 19! This year we've upgraded to having to use a vendor map to keep everyone organized. We're setting up more vendors in the plaza this year than last year. We have a few vendors in the parking spaces in front of the statue. There are people set up around the statue and down the block to the East of the statue.

The only thing I wish was different about our first market of 2024 would be that Sammi could've been there to enjoy it. She had to miss out due to a sick kid; spending Mother's Day weekend doing the mom-est thing. Luckily, my husband Jared had the day off and was able to set up, man the Three Rivers Kringla table, and help me keep whatever semblance of sanity I had left. To set up 3 tables and 2 canopies of different things and activities and organize the other vendors is a lot when Sammi is there. We were able to be set up by 8 and enjoy the morning! It was so busy the entire market time flew by, but I tried to capture as much as I could.
Thank you to every one who came out to support our Humboldt Farmer's Market! It was a great start to the 2024 season.
We'll see you for the next one...Memorial Day Saturday, May 25th - 8am-12pm - located at the Parley Finch Plaza, 600 block Sumner Ave., Humboldt
Until then stay safe, be kind and we'll talk soon!

P.S.- If you didn't get the chance to see the Norhtern Lights Friday night I was able to get out to get a couple photos (see below). If you've never experienced them it's the most magical experience, even if you don't get to experience it at its strongest.
