We weren't sure what kind of turn out we'd have if we did a bonus Farmer's Market at the Humboldt County Fair, but we knew when we first started planning this season it's what we wanted to do...
Once again, the Humboldt Farmer's Market exceeded our expectations!
Not only did we see our market regulars, we also caught many fresh faces! Our goal for every Farmer's Market is to make it a destination. It's one of the (many) reasons we are set up on the 2nd and 4th Saturday of every month downtown Humboldt, with the exception of last Saturday at the Humboldt County Fair.
Every one of our Farmer's Markets should have something we all look forward to! Usually our activities are for kids, but Saturday was for people of all ages. The fun activity (flower pounding) was provided by two of our vendors, Dibble & Bloom and Iowa Family Gardening Homestead. There were buckets of flowers to choose from.
They laid a piece of cloth over a wooden block; then the flowers and foliage could be arranged however the creators desired. A piece of paper towel would go over the plants of choice before hammering could start.
The creators were instructed to hammer slowly around all the edges of the flowers and foliage. Once the creator was satisfied they could peel up the paper towel and flowers to fully view their creation! Kelsey Wigans (Iowa Family Gardening Homestead) advised people that their new art could be washed with hand soap or mild soap if desired then dry it in the sunshine!
We ended up with 11 vendors this week! We had some of our regular vendors along with some new faces, including a kid maker that wasn't able to attend last weekends Kids Makers Market at Arts Fest. We were more than happy to let Avery get her chance to sell her fun crochet creations!
Last but not least Three Rivers Tails were set up selling goodies for the pups and their humans to raise money for the future dog park!
When the Farmer's Market started at 8am we had a slow start, but most of that was due to the 4-H/FFA Swine Show going on. Once that was over we had a nice wave of people. We attribute a lot of our crowd to how absolutely amazing it was outside. Friday's weather was pure torture due to the heat and humidity, but Saturday morning it was almost cold (which I welcomed with open arms, summer weather is not for me). The last photo in the gallery below is of the bouquet I built at Dibble & Blooms table!
It was a beautiful day! I was still recovering from Arts Fest, but it was so so worth it to do a Bonus Farmer's Market at the Humboldt County Fair! I hope it's a tradition we're able to keep in future seasons!
Next Farmer's Market is Touch a Truck!! We'll be back downtown, 600 block Sumner Ave. on August 12th 8am-12pm! The street will be blocked off and all equipment will be placed by 10am. This event is one we had to reschedule due to weather. Fingers and toes crossed the weather behaves for us this time! This is going to be an awesome event for the kiddos!
If you'd like to become a vendor click here or email us at HumboldtFarmersMarket@gmail.com!
Until then stay safe, be kind and we'll talk soon!
